National Training Academy Summer Intensive Series

This September, NCRC’s National Training Academy presents the Summer Intensive Series, a curated online learning experience designed for housing counselors and related professionals. The series features expert instructors such as Carl E. Windom, Sue Ortiz, Gerardo Ravelo, and Pamelia Harris, who will cover a range of critical topics, including Engaging HBCUs, Pre-Purchase and Post-Purchase Counseling, Rental Counseling, Supporting the Unhoused, and Empowering Rural Communities. 

Participants are invited to begin the learning experience by completing a survey questionnaire to apply for a scholarship, offering the opportunity to attend these courses at no charge. Course dates and times will be provided in early September, so please stay tuned for further details.

Learning Objectives

Engaging HBCUs:

  • Understand the unique challenges and opportunities in collaborating with Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
  • Develop strategies to foster meaningful partnerships with HBCUs to support housing counseling initiatives.

Pre-Purchase and Post-Purchase Counseling:

  • Gain insights into effective pre-purchase counseling techniques to prepare clients for homeownership.
  • Learn post-purchase counseling strategies to support long-term homeownership sustainability and success.

Rental Counseling:

  • Analyze and apply complex rental counseling techniques that address multifaceted issues such as legal advocacy, tenant-landlord negotiation, and housing discrimination.
  • Formulate comprehensive rental counseling programs that incorporate crisis management, relocation strategies, and long-term housing stability for diverse client populations.

Supporting the Unhoused:

  • Understand the complexities of homelessness and the various pathways to support individuals transitioning to stable housing.
  • Learn best practices in providing comprehensive counseling services to the unhoused population.

Empowering Rural Communities:

  • Identify the unique challenges faced by rural communities in accessing housing and financial services.
  • Develop strategies to empower rural residents through targeted housing counseling and community development efforts.
