Marc Lore, the billionaire and former Walmart executive, has envisioned a modern utopian city, Telosa, that will run on fully renewable energy and provide all residents equal access to high quality education and health care, regardless of their income.
Some have concerns about whether a proposed city like this can exist in a vacuum. Investing in existing communities that have been historically marginalized and striving for equity, rather than building a new city and hoping people will want to move there, could be more effective, says Dedrick Asante-Muhammad. He is the chief of membership, policy and equity for the National Community Reinvestment Coalition.
