At the 2022 Just Economy Conference, we heard from banking, real estate, and housing enforcement specialists on racial biases in appraisals. Shortly after the conference, average mortgage rates roughly doubled in a matter of weeks – jeopardizing many prospective home sales in turmoil and leaving both sellers and buyers at the mercy of appraisers in new, high-stakes ways.
