ABA’s 2023 Forum On Affordable Housing and Community Development Law Annual Meeting

Join NCRC President and CEO Jesse Van Tol at the ABA’s 2023 Forum on Affordable Housing and Community Development Law Annual Meeting in Washington, DC, on May 24-26. Van Tol will be speaking on the panel, “Drafting and Negotiating Community Benefits Agreements” currently scheduled for 9:45 – 11:00 am ET on Friday, May 26.
This panel will explore the challenges associated with drafting and negotiating community benefits agreements (CBAs). Panelists will discuss the contexts in which CBAs have often been used and the possibilities for new and innovative ways to use them to resolve disputes between long-time community residents and developers of major projects or businesses. They will also explore the kinds of provisions that are normally included within a CBA and some issues that may arise when working out the details of these provisions in ways that meet the interests of all sides. Panelists will also discuss the process of working with local governments and other stakeholders in recognizing or reinforcing the provisions of the CBA to strengthen the agreement’s effectiveness
