Washington, DC– In response to the Administration’s decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, NCRC’s President and CEO, John Taylor made the following statement.
“NCRC cannot accept this reprehensible decision and imposition on our Dreamer friends and neighbors. Hundreds of thousands of undocumented immigrants will be deported if Congress does not act by March 5th. We are deeply concerned for the young Dreamers future, as many have never known a home other than America.”
“This decision was not only inhumane but based on false economic reasoning.” continued John Taylor. “President Trump stated today, ‘Before we ask what is fair to illegal immigrants, we must also ask what is fair to American families, students, taxpayers, and jobseekers’. But immigrants are not the problem, it’s policies that move our jobs overseas and steer profits from the workers’ hands into corporations’ pockets. These profit-driven politics split the working class, making everybody fight more … over less. This is simply a smoke screen, used by President Trump and politicians like him, to disguise the much larger issues of income inequality and the disenfranchisement of the working class.”
“Dreamers of today are no different than my grandparents, or your grandparents, who came to this country ready to work hard for something better. Thank God we did not have a Trump Administration back then, or you and I would not be here. We insist Congress work quickly to pass bipartisan legislation codifying DACA. Together, we will continue to fight for this historically invaluable part of America’s community and economy.”
