Washington, DC – Today, community groups led by the National Community Reinvestment Coalition (NCRC) called upon Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell hold a full Senate vote on the confirmation of Loretta Lynch for U.S. Attorney General. Ms. Lynch’s wait for confirmation, presently over five months, is at historic levels, and a majority of the Senate now supports her confirmation.
“Having strong leaders as regulators, and as Attorney General, is imperative for our collective well-being as a nation,” said NCRC President and CEO John Taylor. “It’s eminently clear that Loretta Lynch is such a leader. She is fully qualified and would make an excellent Attorney General. It’s time for Senator McConnell to bring the confirmation to a vote and allow our country to move forward.”

The Honorable Mitch McConnell
Majority Leader
U.S. Senate
U.S. Capitol Building, S-230
Washington, DC 20510
Dear Majority Leader McConnell:
We, the undersigned members and allies of the National Community Reinvestment Coalition (NCRC) – an association of more than 600 community-based organizations supporting strong fair housing and fair lending laws – are writing to urge you to support Loretta Lynch to be Attorney General of the United States and to schedule a immediate confirmation vote on the Senate floor. Ms. Lynch has a distinguished career as a federal prosecutor, and her record of service has garnered praise from both Democrats and Republicans. In recognition of her stellar credentials, the U.S. Senate has unanimously confirmed her to lead one of the most important U.S. Attorney’s Offices in the country on two separate occasions. Loretta Lynch is uniquely qualified to serve as the nation’s top law enforcement officer, and she should be confirmed without further delay.
For nearly 25 years, NCRC has been a leader in ensuring that the nation’s fair housing laws are enforced and that underserved communities across the country have access to mortgage credit and small business lending. We believe that Loretta Lynch is an outstanding candidate for this position. In addition to her personal background growing up in North Carolina during the civil rights struggles of the 1960s, she will draw on a rich background from her tenure in public service, private practice and academia. She has successfully prosecuted some of the most high-profile criminal and civil rights cases in New York. She has also served as Chair of the Attorney General’s Advisory Committee, and has grappled with important issues facing the Department of Justice nationwide. She would bring steady leadership to an agency that is critically important to the entire civil and human rights community.
Loretta Lynch knows the Department of Justice, she has the experience, and she has demonstrated the leadership. We join with many voices across the nation and Senators on both sides of the aisle in urging support for her nomination and for a vote on her confirmation to be Attorney General on the Senate floor forthwith.
Sincerely,
The National Community Reinvestment Coalition
