Federal Agency Strategies for Reducing Elder Fraud

Scams targeting the elderly are a particularly pernicious form of fraud. Over the last several years, the U.S. Department of Justice and the United States Postal Inspection Service have brought new resources and strategies to bear on the problem, increasingly addressing these schemes comprehensively.

This presentation will discuss those efforts, which include not only bringing ringleaders, who frequently reside overseas, to justice, but also curbing the schemes’ ability to use individuals in the United States to facilitate fraud, and increasing awareness of scams through outreach and community engagement.
