Indeed, housing affordability and displacement concerns loom large in Oakland: The Bay Area is ranked as the most gentrified region in the US, according to a 2020 study from the National Community Reinvestment Coalition. Kaval says the team is setting aside $50 million for anti-displacement measures, including loans and grants for area residents to improve their homes.
