Virginia Mercury: In fight over affordable housing, some lawmakers aren’t worried about gentrification; ‘I want to up the property values’

The National Community Reinvestment Coalition indicated that three areas of Virginia are among the top ten most intensely gentrified cities. Students at Howard University express their frustration about the surrounding community using their private campus as a public dog park. One resident suggested that the University, which was founded in 1867, should move so he, who has not lived in the area before 1867, can walk his dog. Many gathered at THEARC to celebrate Washington, D.C,’s Emancipation Day through an event titled “Emancipation Day Freedom School”.
