Causa Justa of Oakland, California is a grassroots organization building community leadership among low income San Francisco and Oakland residents and has been selected for National Neighbors Silver grant because of their proven ability to combine service provision, community organizing and grassroots policy campaigns. The group also has a strong membership base, mostly comprised of older adults and a seasoned organizing staff with a strong capacity to train volunteers.
Faith Action for Community Equity (FACE) of Hawaii empowers its membership base of churches, temples, community groups, non profits and organized labor to live out common values by challenging systems that perpetuate poverty and injustice. FACE was selected for National Neighbors Silver because of their strong organizing capacity and proven experience in launching policy campaigns aimed at foreclosure mediation.
United Neighbors of Iowa has a long history of improving the quality of life in rural areas by designing programs in consultation with communities of impact. United Neighbors will expand their multifaceted programming of organizing, crisis intervention, housing rehab, youth development and housing counseling to include collaboration with existing older adult service providers and neighborhood organizing.
Empowering and Strengthening Ohio’s People (ESOP) of Cleveland Ohio organizes leadership around issues impacting neighborhood life. Their success in organizing is demonstrated through their tactics such as accountability sessions with key decision makers. ESOP currently incorporates older adults in this kind of work and is uniquely poised for success given their ideal working relationships with those in the aging field.
Jewish Community Action’s (JCA) deep commitment to social justice, organizing and reach within communities of import make them ideally suited for National Neighbors Silver. JCA has proven their ability to train and utilize hundreds of volunteers through relationship building and leadership development.
